Golden Globes broadcast seen by 17 million viewers

The Nielsen Co. says Sunday's Golden Globes ceremony was seen by almost 17 million TV viewers. It beat all network competition in its time period, slightly exceeding last year's audience for the film and TV awards show.

According to time zone-adjusted Nielsen "fast national" figures released Monday, it was NBC's most-watched prime-time entertainment telecast in the 18-to-49 demographic since last year's Golden Globes.

"Hedonistic" Hedda Gabler banned at Tehran theatre

Iranian authorities have suspended a Tehran theatre's production of the classic European play Hedda Gabler and set up a body to police cultural affairs in a sign of a new crackdown on the arts.

Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi, chief prosecutor in the Iranian capital, told the semi-official Fars news agency on Wednesday he had summoned theater company members to explain themselves and said a new office to police cultural affairs had been created.

Lohan rehab spat to bring scrutiny to Betty Ford

Lindsay Lohan isn't the only one authorities are investigating over a late night spat with a rehab worker. Experts say the facility where she is being treated and its former employee will also receive some scrutiny.

CBS announces midseason changes, adds 3 rookies

Prime-time leader CBS is tweaking its schedule to bring midseason shows aboard.

Joining the CBS lineup is spinoff series "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior," which will debut Feb. 16. Other newcomers are the comedy "Mad Love," debuting Feb. 21, and the spy drama "Chaos" starting April 1.

Veteran character actor Steve Landesberg dies

Steve Landesberg may have been best known for his role as the intellectual and sometimes annoying Detective Sgt. Arthur Dietrich on the long-running 1970s cop comedy "Barney Miller."

But younger audiences knew him too — for a slew of recent parts such as the doctor on the 2008 hit movie "Forgetting Sarah Marshall."

The veteran actor died Monday at age 65, his agent, Jeffrey Leavitt, told The Associated Press. The cause of death wasn't released.

Veteran CNN talk show host Larry King hangs up his famous suspenders Thursday, after a quarter of a century of interviewing the powerful and famous.

Gospel singer who performed with Elvis dies

Sherrill "Shaun" Nielsen, a gospel singer who performed with Elvis Presley, has died at age 68.

Nielsen's publicist, Aaron Crisler, says Nielsen died Friday of lung cancer.

Nielsen sang with Elvis on the Grammy-nominated song "Softly as I Leave You" and performed with a number of gospel groups over his career including the Singing Speer Family and Voice.

Nielsen is survived by his wife Brenda Hall Nielsen. His funeral is scheduled for Thursday in Cullman, Ala.…
